Can you get your IELTS band alone?

dont-do-ielts-aloneIf you have been watching the interviews that I have done with some of my students who have now passed the IETS with the bands that they wanted you will know that they all said one of the things that changed everything for them was not trying to get their IELTS score alone.

Here are the first two interviews in case you haven’t seen them:

So can you do it completely alone?

The answer is – it depends. It depends on what score you want, it depends on your English language level, it depends on how quickly you want to pass the exam and it depends on you and your method of study.

A native speaker can probably get a great result by themselves if they practise the format of the exam (having said that I do also work with native speakers who don’t get the result and need support). If you are looking for a lower band say 5 or 6 even 6.5 overall it is possible if you have a good study habit to get the result by yourself but it might take a little while.

Getting bands 7 and 8 will generally take a long time to get and you may need to take the exam quite a few times before you reach your desired score and for some people the scores do begin to get worse the more they take it and this is when going it alone can be a dangerous thing to do. The problem is not always your English level or your ability in IELTS, often fear and lack of confidence kick in and this can make the result harder and harder to achieve.

When you are in this situation it is very hard to get yourself out of it and you will need some support.

Another problem of not getting support for your IELTS preparation is that you will not necessarily know why you are making mistakes and you need someone to help you out and show you what to do and also what not to do. In the case of writing this can really stop you from progressing as you may be learning mistakes and making them a firm part of your work which you will then be unable to change easily.

So, if you want to make sure you are on track, improve your scores, build your confidence and make sure that you get the IELTS exam result that you really want, you need to get some support. Getting this is easy and you can get this support at whatever level is most suitable for you and your IELTS.

Just contact me using the form on this website (right-hand tab at the top of the page) and I’ll help you get the support that YOU need.
